When you import office chairs and gaming chairs from China, quality concerns are always on your mind. Today we share a real case from Maochang Furniture Anji, showing how we respond and take responsibility when issues arise.

We recently shipped an order of office chairs fitted with multi-functional tilt mechanisms to one of our clients.

After the goods arrived at their warehouse, they sent us a video reporting end-user complaints: the chairs had noticeable wobble.

From our factory experience, as well as feedback from our component supplier, this minor movement was initially considered within normal mechanical clearance. We double-checked with several other mechanism manufacturers, and they gave the same feedback. Our customer shared that chairs they previously sourced from another factory with the same type of mechanism did not have this wobble. We also reached out to that supplier for confirmation, and received identical technical feedback.

We dug deep and identified the root cause: a roughly 2mm clearance gap between the control lever and the mechanism metal plate. This gap is necessary. If the two parts fit tightly together, the lever will rub or jam against the plate and stop the tilt function from working correctly.

Even so, we never told the customer “this cannot be fixed”, and we will never shift blame. We took two lines of action at once:

1. Quick on-site fix for the existing stock at the customer’s warehouse We tested self-adhesive shims made of different materials. Silicone and ABS turned out too soft for this application. After trials, we confirmed PE shims work perfectly. We will cut PE shims to custom sizes and send them to our customer. We cover the labour cost for fitting these shims.

2. Permanent upgrade for future production We are working closely with our mechanism supplier to revise the mechanism design, so this wobble issue will be eliminated from upcoming batches.
